SHELBY COUNTY EMERGENCY MASS NOTIFICATION SYSTEM
On behalf of the Shelby County Public Safety Officials we are pleased to announce a new tool to rapidly communicate emergency messages to citizens. Utilizing a Federal Homeland Security Grant, the Shelby County Terrorism Advisory Team authorized the purchase of ‘TFCC Alert’' from the Columbus, Ohio based Twenty First Century Communications.
With TFCC Alert, Shelby County Emergency Officials will be able to send time-sensitive, targeted messages to select groups and geographic areas. The system is capable of reaching landlines, cellular and VoIP phones, Blackberries/PDAs, pagers and TTY/TTD devices for the hearing impaired. The primary use of the system will be to disseminate messages pertaining to the health, safety or welfare of the County/City/Schools/Agencies when affected by a perceived, emerging, or imminent emergency event.
With TFCC Alert Shelby County Emergency Dispatch Facilities will be able to send emergency notifications for situations such as:
- severe weather warnings
- water contamination alerts
- pandemic planning
- nuclear hazards and chemical spills
- missing persons
- hostage situations

The Ohio Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association has announced the launch of Project Shaq Shield, a campaign to proactively protect children who use the Internet.
Project Shaq Shield is encouraging parents to take ownership of their children's Internet activities. The best defense against Internet predators is parental involvement. With nearly all children now using the Internet and cell phones, the probability of them encountering an unsolicited sexual advance has greatly increased.
The Shaq Shield app is a free iPhone app featuring basketball superstar, Shaquille O’Neal. This iPhone app, called the Shaq Shield, the first of its kind, can be accessed at www.OhioICAC.org. |
